Dave D has passed this to me for all to read. Looks as if some hard work has been put into researching these options. H.

Skaha Parking  by  Howie   2006/11/06 09:39:20 reply
"News Flash: Braesyde Parking Lot update - Nov 4, 2006 The parking lot at Braesyde was closed on Novemeber 1, 2006. No access to the Bluffs via Braesyde Farms property is now possible. Currently, it is not clear what access arrangements will be in place by Spring 2007. However, be assured that major efforts are underway to secure access to the Bluffs. Please watch this space for any news, most especially related to how you may be able to help. Thanks."

I'm going to try to attach the document that Hugh Lenny has circulated, inviting folks to an access planning meeting and outlining possible solutions to parking and access. Hmmnnn... there doesn't seem to be any way to do that. Maybe what I'll do is email the MSWord file to Howie and let him fret.

Ghost Access News  by  President   2006/05/10 12:08:55 reply
As of last week the GAMP has been approved by the Minister of SRD. This means that the FLU zone is now established which gives SRD authority to control vehicular access to the region. The extent of restriction is yet to be revealed at this time but we can likely expect that it will be similar to what was discussed last fall. Random camping sites will now be designated as well. There will be a press release to the media from SRD in the next several weeks. Check the CASA web site for details and updates shortly -tomorrow.

GPS mapping criteria from SRD. As we have mentioned SRD is still seeking input with respect to trails, access points and specific climbing areas. They have kindly provided the following pdf to facilitate this process

The Airdrie Boulders (a.k.a. "Dead Horse Rock")  by  CMC   2000/06/08 20:14:55 reply
This is the largest of the glacial erratics found north of the city, and is composed of two rocks, about 5 metres high, split by a wide stemming chimney (not quite wide enough for the horse). There are really good face and crack climbs on these these boulders, mainly in the higher grades of difficulty. The rocks are on private land and access is currently problematical (read "forbidden"). Anyone fancy tackling the access issue? To get there, drive north on Highway 2 to Airdrie, and turn east on Highway 567. After about 2 kms., you can see the boulders in the field to the north. Turn left again to park on a side road, and approach the boulders from the north side. Beware of abnormally irate local residents and farmer.

The CMC recommends that all climbers adhere to the following guidelines when climbing on the Big Rock. If we don't do it voluntarily, legislation banning us from the rock completely will be the next step.
